Sisters vs. nuns and some November saints

Imagine being in front of 3,000 people when you send up a cheer for nuns…

…only to realize that the person you were referring to was a religious sister…

…and they’re not the same thing.

I had no idea.

Did you?

If not, you’re in good company. At the conference I was em-ceeing, not many attendees realized my error. (That’s why I explained it at the next break. ????)

But if you didn’t know about this, the kids in your life probably don’t know, either. Here’s an infographic from Catholic Extension that explains the differences.

Gratitude is in the air.

I blame November. It’s not a bad thing, though. Here’s a great list of easy gratitude prompts. You could journal them individually or as a family. You could also use them as dinner discussion or car talk.

Have some saintly fun.

November 15 is the feast of St. Albert the Great, patron saint of scientists. Find an age appropriate science experiment and discuss this saint. Here’s a great introduction from the Dominican Friars.

On November 17, remember St. Elizabeth of Hungary and her care for the poor by baking bread together and then sharing it with others, especially those in need. You can even go so far as to make animal-shaped loaves of bread (who says service can’t be fun?).
