Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. It’s a relatively new feast; Pope Pius XI declared the observance in 1925. It’s also a moveable feast, set for the final Sunday in Ordinary Time. The earliest date it can occur is November 20, and the latest, November 26. The feast is commonly known as “Christ the King Sunday,” and what a fitting way to say goodbye to Ordinary Time and look ahead to Advent!

Here’s a prayer to say today with your Catholic kids:

Collect for the Solemnity of Christ the King

Almighty and merciful God,
you break the power of evil and make all things new
in your Son Jesus Christ, the King of the universe.
May all in heaven and earth
acclaim your glory and never cease to praise you.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
